Katie - Just watched "No Hard Feelings." My wife and I belly laughed through it to the poignant ending. Jennifer Lawrence did not disappoint. But the witty writing was the star. We are working our way through the list.
Just saw The Killer. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The internal talk is mesmerizing in its similarity to the Nightengale Conant sales improvement tapes of the 1990s. The same calm monotone exhortations to perfecting the craft of sales. Such a good movie.
Wow, you've given me something to look up—that sounds like a fascinating bit of history and I don't doubt that Fincher used it as inspiration. It really is such a quietly fascinating film, filled with sneakily relevant commentary. So glad you liked it!
The world of sales is similar to other niche subcultures. You have your buzz words, leaders, founding literature, acolytes, etc. This rote approach to sales fell out of favor, but it is really a high-level course in human psychology. Sales is expressed in the arts through books like, Death of a Salesman, Siddhartha by Herman Hessee and who could forget Danny DeVito in the classic movie, Tin Men. I was exposed to this culture briefly and my revelation came when later, I was buying an automobile. I looked up at the salesmen and thought, "I know what you are doing, and I am not falling for it." I guess my favorite "Sales" movie is Cadillac Man starring Robin Williams. It did poorly at the box office but IMO his best work by a mile. Dave
